Bunion correctors can make a difference. They won’t make bunions go away, but they can improve them and also help with pain inside the joint in those who have bunions.
The bunion correctors are a brace or splint that seems like a good invention to correct the alignment of the big toe if you have a bunion with what is called a, hallux valgus. This is the deviation of the big toe towards the outside of the foot that often goes with a bunion. They are meant to be worn at night and appear as though they should be effective. However, the problem is that even if they do apply some correction at night, some or all of that correction could be undone the next day when you put the foot into a shoe. If that shoe is tight in the forefoot, then a lot might be undone! This is why they can be limited in there effectiveness at actually correcting bunions. One study has shown that after a few months of continuous usage, there can be an improvement in the angle of the big toe of a few degrees.
As one expert pointed out, that is only one side of the usefulness of these. What the bunion correctors seem to be particularly useful at is helping with the pain that can develop deep inside the big toe joint of those who have bunions. They probably help as they keep the joint mobile and flexible and that seem to reduce the arthritis like pain that occurs in the joint.
These devices are relatively cheap and if you have a painful bunion or hallux valgus, you have nothing to loose by giving these a try and see if they can help.
