YouTube is the video sharing platform that is second only in traffic to the Google search engine (Google owns YouTube). YouTube started in 2005 and over 100 hours of content are added to YouTube every minute. Needless to say a lot of people get a lot of information from YouTube. There have been a number of studies on the quality of health care and medical information on YouTube. Some have specifically looked at foot problems, such as the diabetic foot on YouTube and that quality is not good.
This makes it pretty clear that any information gained from YouTube needs to be treated with caution and checked against authoritative sources. YouTube videos are often used as sources of information for those who promote pseudoscience and bad health care information. YouTube do have policies against medical misinformation and they do terminate the channel of the most egregious ones.
